Forcing Tulips

The production of flowers is called forcing. This means that we force the bulb by use of preparation and greenhouse to flower earlier(wintertime), compare to the natural growing period (spring).

Horizon Flowers is forcing their tulips by the most modern way, with a efficient logistic system. Using this system completes the guarantee to turn approximately 40 millions of tulipbulbs into a quality bunch of flowers for every consumer. Besides this, the process becomes more pleasant for employees because drag away heavy boxes is not necessary anymore.

Every year in autumn we start with planting the tulips in boxes, 75 % will be forced on peat medium and 25 % will be forced on the so-called hydro culture. After planting the tulips endure their further preparation. The advantage by forcing on hydro culture is that the process and end product of the tulip is very clean. But in spite of the clean process and flower from hydro culture, Horizon flowers is still using the peat medium because than the bulb will produce a tulip which weighs heavier (an influence on determination of quality). Besides that not all cultivars are suitable for forcing hydro culture.

Begin November we start with harvesting the tulips, what will end in Mai. By means of a constant production of all available colours we attempt to become a reliable partner for the customer.
