Nursery Holland

Horizon Flowers grows around 110 hectares of tulips with locations in the Netherlands and France.

In the Netherlands we grow in the areas known as 'Noord-Oostpolder' and 'Flevopolder'. Around 90 percent of the bulbs are grown in nets. This because of the more efficient harvesting process and less damage at the bulbs. Prevention of any damage is very important in the further live cycle of the bulb. A healthy bulb will give a better product (flower) than an unhealthy one. The other 10 percent exists of cultivars which are not very well suited to be grown on the more heavy soil. These are grown on 'the traditional way' without nets.

Just like in almost all areas in the agricultural sector the mechanisation is a very important item. If we take for example the harvesting of tulip bulbs than we see that nowadays we harvest 2-2,5 hectare with 4 people a day, in former days (20 years ago) it took 20-25 people for only 1 hectare a day. Besides this, nowadays we are less depending of the weather conditions. Horizon flowers is absolutely convinced that this mechanisation will continue in the future.
